Aeolian Islands
In Sicily our first base is in Sant’Agata di Militello,
a nice small town near Messina, sitting between the
hills and the sea. Sant’Agata is the ideal place to
leave for a sailing trip to the Aeolians, but you can
choose among a variety of interesting itineraries for
your weekly charters.
After just 25 NM and 3 hrs cruising you’ll arrive in
front of the 7 islands archipelago: Alicudi, Filicudi,
Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli and Vulcano. All
of them have something unique: Alicudi, the most isolated
of all, is a harsh and remote island, still connected
by foot or mule; Salina is considered the island of
intellectuals, while Panarea is the island of nightlife;
Stromboli and its incessant eruptions, Lipari and Filicudi
had been settlements from the Ancient Roman Era and
great for sailing expeditions. In Lipari’s oldest part
you find the castle which was built during the Greek
times, but the walls around it are from the thirteenth-century,
built after the assault of the Turks.
On the contrary, if you wish to cruise eastwards along
the coast you will get to many beautiful bays between
Capo d’Orlando and Messina, or have a look from the
sea at the Madonna of Tindari Sanctuary; or you can
jus moor in the picturesque and near harbour of Capo
d’Orlando, Porto Rosa, Milazzo and Messina.
Cruising southwards to the strait of Messina please
have a visit to the historical and wonderful town of
Taormina or organize an unforgettable trip on the Etna,
the highest volcano in Europe, or you can cruise straight
to the south coasts of Calabria. To the Aeolians another
starting point is the Marina in Portorosa, Lipari island
and Milazzo harbour.
Embark/Disembark: Sant’Agata di Militello, Lipari, Portorosa, Milazzo
The Egadi Archipelago
The Egadi Archipelago is made of 3 islands located on
the West side of Sicily. They are Favignana, Marettimo
and Levanzo. Favigana, shaped like a butterfly, is rich
in grottos and caves; Levanzo, the smallest, has got
many rocky caves and a wild nature; Marettimo, the farthest,
offers many little beaches and caves. Your cruise can
sail up to Trapani or to Scopello, famous for its old
"tonnare".
Embark/Disembark: Palermo
Amalfi and Cilento
Amalfi is famous for its Cathedral, the villas
in Ravello and the many churches built during the period
of the republic of Amalfi. Furthermore you can discover
the Galli's islands facing Positano, the Emerald Grotto,
near Conca dei Marini, and Praiano. The Funicular railway
leads up to Capri and its world famous Piazzetta. Visit
the labyrinth of tiny streets and famous boutiques,
the breath-taking landscapes, I faraglioni and the Blue
Grotto. We recommend a visit to the Baroque church dedicated
to St Stephen, the church of Our Lady of Succour and
the ruins of Villa Jovis, Tiberius’ Palace. The view
from Tragara over the Faraglioni rocks and Marina Piccola
is not to be missed. There is a chair-lift for an exciting
ride up to Monte Solaro which can also be reached, for
those who enjoy walking, via an enchanting mule-track.
Cape Palinuro and the National Park of Cilento & Vallo
di Diano are Unesco World heritage sites, together with
the whole Amalfi Coast. Swim in Punta Infreschi, an
idyllic pirates' cove, visit the Statue of Christ (22
mt tall) overlooking the shore and then go shopping
to Maratea historical centre. Ischia the largest of
the islands in the Bay of Naples lies 17 Km from the
Campanian capital. The vulcanic origins of the island
make it a perfect place for relaxing and being pampered.
There are six villages or municipalities: Ischia Porto,
Ischia Ponte, Casamicciola, Sant’Angelo, Forio and Lacco
Ameno.
Embark/Disembark: Salerno
